Reza 12-20

Reza 12-20

A polyhedral shape interlocking puzzle designed and made by Junichi Yananose in 2016.

The shape of the puzzle is based on a compound of dodecahedron and icosahedron. Juno has simulated 25 patterns of twisting angle and orientation of the pieces to have a well balanced assembled shape. And then he has tested numbers of combination of the pieces to make the burr puzzle enjoyable, challenging and operable by two hands.

10 types of the pieces are used for both to the dodecahedron and icosahedron. The puzzle has multiple solutions. But Juno himself doesn't know how many of them can be physically assembled. The puzzle requires some coordinated motions when it is assembled or disassembled.

This is a massive interlocking burr puzzle. 15 to 20 ordinal six pieces burrs can be made from a material used for one of this burr puzzle. The average weight of the puzzle is slightly over 2kg and its diameter is 256 mm or 10 inch. Because of the complexity and lower survival rate of the puzzle pieces, we only have less than 10 to be sold. Juno has no plan to make another batch at this moment.

The puzzle is named after Prof. Reza Sarhangi who made great contributions to math-art community.
